Abstinence in Sex Education

Abstinence education encourages students to wait until marriage to have sex. Studies show that abstinence only sex education classes are not really effective to decrease the premarital and bad side of sex. Students who joined in abstinence-only education programs were engaged in premarital sex as students who did not participate in that programs. This is not good news for tho who support abstinence only education. It leaves one big question what is the most effective way to teach teens about sexual behavior and its consequences.
Nowadays, high school students are mostly sexually active. So that some education experts think that elementary school is the right time for kids to learn about abstinence only. If it is done on the high school, students will not listen to anyone teaching them about abstinence. So, you can provide teens with the facts and statistics. You may add with the future result of having sex before marriage and let them make the decision about whether or not to practice abstinence on their own.
The next main problem is most youth do not communicate well with their parents. Most parents are busy with work or they are divorced and live far away. Kids will learn the danger of pre-martial sex if their parents teach them. So that, it is important for parents to take a course in parenting if they have difficulties in communicating with the kids. Since, the adults and the behavior are the role model, parents are not suggested to behave badly in sex relationship.
Developing sex education program does not mean that it has to be strictly on the book. It should not force a rulebook down teens’ throats as they would listen and not just treat it as a joke. Furthermore, religion needs to play a greater role. It is believed that abstinence will save people for their honeymoon. Here, religious groups should increase their support for abstinence. Another problem is that sex happens when teens are under the influence of alcohol and drugs. This is truly huge part problem.
