Practice

  • Individual and group practice in Evanston, Illinois for over 20 years. My clinical practice focused on both individual psychotherapy and health psychology and involved day-to-day quality assurance activities, clinical teaching & supervision, and negotiations with insurance and managed care companies for a large group practice. I also directed Evanston Hospital's community mental health programs bringing sliding scale and pro bono services to a diverse population of urban, underserved individuals, couples, and families.
  • I am Board Certified in both Clinical Psychology and Clinical Health Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) and have been licensed in two States..
  • I was elected Chair of the Board of Professional Affairs during a period of time when APA was focused on defining it responsibilities for preparing practice guidelines for our field.
  • Served as APA's representative to the Joint Commission on Accreditation of HealthCare Organizations [JCAHO] advocating for hospital practice privileges for psychologists.
  • Elected President of the Illinois Psychological Association. Established one of the first Psychology-Red Cross training programs.

  • I managed a "24-7" clincal practice with service responsibilities for a large hospital and community-based clinical practice serving a diverse patient population in rural Florida during my tenure as Chair of the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology at the University of Florida.  My own practice in our group includes mental health and health psychology diagnostic intakes and treatment services.
  • Served on APA task forces that focused upon Telehealth, Expanding Roles in HealthCare, Evaluation of the APA Research Office, Practice Guideline for Lesbian, Gay, & Bisexual Clients, Practice Guidelines in Geropsychology, to name a few.  I was appointed to two APA Presidents to task forces on Integrating Practice and Science.
  • Served on the ASPPB Practice Analysis Task Force (2002).
  • I chaired the Board of Directors' Task Force on Work Force analysis that resulted in funding for the APA's Center for Work Force Analysis and Research. This Center will allow Psychology [1] to collect the data necessary to truly understand the career "pipeline" for all branches of psychology, [2] help provide data to advise students about career opportunities and "supply and demand" for training and career trajectories, and [3] help Psychology provide data necessary to educate public policy officials as we seek increased research funding, additional training funding, and improved support for services provision and public service programs.
