Since many high schools involve sex education as one of the subjects, talking about sex is not taboo anymore. Good sex education will let the youth to talk freely about sex and its relationship to interpersonal relations, dynamics within a relationship, love, family and his/her future. It is commonly talked openly so that the atmosphere in the classroom is comfortable and the they do not feel shy when asking questions. Then, the next step is choosing the suitable method in sex education. You may look on the calendar, it is stated that once a year is celebrated as International AIDS day. On that day, High School teacher may ask the students to visit people with AIDS in hospitals or in their homes. This activity will make the patient feel comfort and and get the support. Students will see this activity as a lesson for them not to have dangerous sex. Another powerful method isĀ  exposing students to subjects such as unwanted pregnancy and abortionĀ  through films. Next, it can be continued with discussion. Teacher may conduct a role play where the challenge is to express themselves openly as if they were in that situation. Roles plays can be very effective teaching devices if it is properly done. Another method of teaching sex education is having the students fill out questionnaires about AIDS. Many students perhaps have heard about the AIDS disease so this is the chance to make sure they know its causes and what it is exactly. The questions can be how to reduce chances of infection by taking birth control pills, the possibility of getting AIDS by donating blood or by oral sex, etc. the results of the questionnaire can be discussed to emphasize students knowledge. This activity can also focus on the parent-adolescent relationships regarding talking about sex and what can be done in allaying the adolescents’ doubts, fear and anxieties.
